cookie monster no longer just eats tons of cookies and now eats healthy things like fruits and vegetables =[
and now I just read this article from my fitness center news: http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> name="ProgId" content="Word.Document"> name="Generator" content="Microsoft Word 12"> name="Originator" content="Microsoft Word 12">
*** Today's Tip:Fruit Is No. 1 Snack
According to the Produce for Better Health Foundation,
fruit has now surpassed cookies as the number one snack item that parents give
to children. Carbonated drinks and cake, originally making the top 10 list,
have now dropped off the list. This is encouraging news particularly given the
recent rise in childhood obesity. The key is to make healthful snacks visible
and convenient. For more easy-to-use tips and recipes visit the Fruits &
Veggies-More Matters Website at www. fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org.
Looks like healthy is in. But oh well, won't change the fact that I love cookies! what up!
A small update: 1. Finished sonship =] Good study, I recommend it to everyone!
2. Going through the book "Disciplines of a Godly Man" by R. Kent Hughes. Just read the chapter on the mind, some crazy stuff. Talks about how many things can affect our mindset, like what we watch on TV, what we listen to on the radio, what we read, and even what we laugh at. we should try not to watch as much TV ;p Personally I don't watch a lot of TV, except when my sports teams are on ;p Some scripture to go with it Proverbs 4:23 and Phillipians 4:8. About Phillipians 4:8, I'll quote this from the book. "Each of Paul's ingredients is explicitly positive. The true, the noble, the right, the pure, the lovely, the admirable all defy negative exposition. Each ingredient was, and is, a matter of personal choice -- and our choices make all the differenc ein the world. We can all choose a though program which will produce a Christian mind."
Raisins
provide potassium, which your body uses to convert sugar into energy.
Nuts stock your body with magnesium, which is important in metabolism,
nerve function, and muscle function. (When magnesium levels are low,
your body produces more lactic acid--the same a fatigue-inducing
substance that you feel at the end of a long workout.)
Not That
Espresso-based Drinks
Sure,
the caffeine will perk you up, but with anywhere from 16 grams (latte)
to 59 grams (white chocolate mocha) of sugar in your Starbucks drink of
choice, the spike in blood sugar will ultimately send you crashing.
Stick to brewed coffee.
In Spanish
culture, the siesta is a midday nap that replenishes the body's energy
and prepares it for an evening of hard work and hard partying. Sadly,
explaining a 3 p.m. snooze in such terms to your boss probably won't go
very far. Instead, use this arsenal of foods to power through the
midday slump.
When You Need a Brain Boost
Eat This
Blueberries
Antioxidants
in blueberries help protect the brain from free-radical damage, which
could decrease your risk of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, and
improve cognitive processing. Wild blueberries, if you can find them,
have even more brain-boosting antioxidants than the cultivated variety.
Not That
Ice Cream
Sugary
foods incite sudden surges of glucose that, in the long term, cause
sugar highs and lows, leading to a lack of concentration. And foods
high in saturated fat can clog blood vessels and prevent the flow of
nutrients and blood to the brain.
Whether you're
trying to negotiate a mortgage, map a route to the Grand Canyon, or
just help Junior with his calculus homework, you have to muster your
smarts when the pressure's on. Stock up on these foods to slow
cognitive decline, improve your memory, and protect your mental
sharpness into old age.
When You Want to Increase Metabolism
Eat This
Green Tea
Catechins,
the powerful antioxidants found in green tea, are known to increase
metabolism. A study by Japanese researchers found that participants who
consumed 690 milligrams of catechins from green tea daily had
significantly lower body mass indexes and smaller waist measurements
than those in a control group.
Who doesn't want a little help from this natural fat-burning engine? These foods will get the pistons pumping.
When You Need to Get Some Sleep
Eat This
Nonfat Popcorn
Pop
a bag half an hour before bedtime: The carbs will induce your body to
create serotonin, a neurochemical that makes you feel relaxed. Skip the
butter--fat will slow the process of boosting serotonin levels.
Not That
A Glass of Warm Milk
Forget
what your mom told you: This popular remedy for sleeplessness could be
making matters worse. The protein in milk boosts alertness. Plus,
unless it's skim, the fat in milk slows down digestion and makes sleep
more fitful.
Nothing makes
it harder to fall asleep than knowing how important it is to fall
asleep. So when the pressure's on, try chowing on one of these snacks
before bedtime to ensure some serious shut-eye.
It has been a long time since I've posted on this. Most of the time I send emails and things, but decided this was not as significant to email people, but instead for the world or my faithful readers to read =] Enjoy!
So this morning I was doing my devotions with God and the passage I read is Phillipians 2:1-8 (this is from Our Daily Bread which can be found at www.rbc.net). Now the significance of this is I have been memorizing these verses for a study, Sonship, I am doing with five brothers. I did not realize it when I saw what I was to read this morning, but as I started to read it, in my head I was like "this sounds familiar!" and then I recognized these were the verses I was memorizing! It really touched my heart that what I memorized had some other significance than just memorizing it for Sonship!
The devotions were about how in a self-centered world, we are conditioned to looking out for ourselves and not for others. The writer shared about how when the flight attendant on the plane brought meals around he declined the meal because he had just eaten before getting on the plane. He then wrote: "The man asked if I felt okay, and I assured him I was fine. He then asked if perhaps the meal didn’t appeal to me. I responded that I just wasn’t hungry. He then surprised me by offering his own meal to me, thinking that if I tried it I might actually enjoy it. It was done in such a gentle and genuine way that it was obviously an expression of his concern for my welfare."
From this Phil. 2:1-8 shows us how in a self-centered world, "as followers of Christ, we are called to model a counter-cultural attitude toward life" and show such unexpected kindness.
Challenge:
Try to bring God's love and kindness Into someone's life today; Even just the gift of caring Will the Savior's love display. --Hess
I asked God for wisdom... He brought me lessons in humility...
I asked God to make me a good leader... He brought me humbling times...
I asked God give me discernment... He brought people who humbled me greatly...
I asked God to bless me... He brought more humbling times...
I asked God to test me like Job... He REALLY brought humbling times...
I asked God to help me... He served up some humble pie...
I asked God to heal me... He brought humility's cousin named grace....
I asked God to make me a "man of God".... Oops....
I asked God for redemption... He choose to start by humbling me....
I asked God to fix a problem for me.... He choose to fix me...
I am not sure if all these have happened to me, but definitely a good majority of them. Especially this past year since joining GrX God has been showing me just how much pride I have and breaking me in every possible way. Be careful for what you pray for =]
